False Credit Reporting
Credit reports can be the deciding factor in whether you are able to get an apartment, a credit card, financing for a car, a job, or a mortgage. Credit reports can include reports from the major credit bureaus, tenant application screenings, and criminal background checks. A false or otherwise unlawful entry on a credit report can throw your life into chaos. This includes:
- Reporting of debts that you never had
- Reporting a late payment or past due balance that is not accurate
- Reporting the information of another person, often with a similar name
- Reporting accounts that are more than seven years old.
- Reporting criminal convictions that have been dismissed or expunged
- Reporting criminal convictions that you were never convicted of
- Reporting misdemeanors as felonies
- Reporting evictions where you were never evicted or where you won the eviction suit.
